Reports from Spain indicate that Chelsea and Real Madrid are negotiating a potential swap deal involving goalkeepers Kepa Arrizabalaga and Andriy Lunin.
Chelsea has shown interest in Lunin recently but is reluctant to meet Real Madrid’s €30 million asking price. To address this, both clubs are exploring a swap deal where Kepa would return to Real Madrid, and Lunin would move to Stamford Bridge, according to AS and Metro.
Lunin, who has not agreed to a contract extension, may leave the Champions League winners this summer. Real Madrid is seeking a replacement, with Kepa emerging as their top choice due to his expressed desire to join them.
Kepa is willing to accept a wage cut to serve as Thibaut Courtois’ backup at Real Madrid. However, this move hinges on Lunin’s departure. Given Lunin’s impressive performance last season, Real Madrid is also looking for a financial component to be included in the deal.
The clubs are still negotiating the specifics, including the financial terms of the swap. Both Real Madrid and Kepa are closely monitoring Lunin’s situation, and a deal could be finalized if Chelsea includes a financial offer.
Chelsea is in the market for a new goalkeeper, despite having Djordje Petrovic and Robert Sanchez on their roster. Manager Enzo Maresca is keen on adding a new keeper this summer. After securing defender Tosin Adarabioyo and midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Chelsea’s third major signing could be Lunin, if they reach an agreement with Real Madrid.
