Manchester United are actively working to secure an agreement with French midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who is currently a free agent after departing Juventus at the end of his contract this summer. Sources with close knowledge of the situation have informed CaughtOffside that Manchester United have been engaged in talks with Rabiot and his mother, who acts as his representative. Other clubs such as Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Galatasaray have also made their own approaches.
Despite the competition, it is increasingly felt that United are leading the race for Rabiot’s signature, with negotiations progressing positively and optimism that an agreement can be reached soon. The club is reportedly working on a contract for the Frenchman worth around €8-9 million per year, along with a signing bonus.
Given United’s struggles last season, particularly with the inconsistent performances of players like Casemiro, Sofyan Amrabat, and Scott McTominay, Rabiot is seen as a cost-effective signing to enhance their midfield ranks. The 29-year-old would bring extensive experience to Erik ten Hag’s squad, having won multiple titles with Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, and having reached a World Cup final and won the Nations League with France.
As a contingency, United have also been closely monitoring Youssouf Fofana as an alternative to Rabiot. However, AC Milan currently lead the race for Fofana, having already agreed personal terms. Milan are waiting to finalize the sales of Adli and/or Bennacer before presenting a new offer to Monaco.
In addition, Jadon Sancho’s transfer from United to PSG is at an advanced stage. Juventus are still attempting to sell Federico Chiesa to make room for Sancho, but Chiesa is waiting for the right opportunity before confirming his departure.
