Arne Slot Names 28-Player Liverpool Pre-Season Tour Squad
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has announced a 28-player roster for the club’s pre-season tour in the United States, starting with a friendly against Real Betis in Pittsburgh this Friday.
The Reds saw 14 of their players participate in Euro 2024 and the Copa America, with most advancing to the knockout stages. Andrew Robertson, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Vitezslav Jaros are the only ones to have returned so far, following their group stage exits.
Robertson’s return means that the squad heading to the U.S. is largely unchanged from the one that narrowly lost to Preston North End in a recent behind-closed-doors friendly. The Championship team scored the only goal in the second half, by which time Liverpool’s first-team players like Mohamed Salah, Curtis Jones, Jarell Quansah, Harvey Elliott, and Szoboszlai had been substituted.
Goalkeepers Caoimhin Kelleher and Marcelo Pitaluga have also joined the squad since then.
It is anticipated that Alisson and Diogo Jota, whose national teams were eliminated in the quarter-finals of their respective tournaments, will join the squad during the tour. However, it is uncertain when players who reached the later stages, such as Trent Alexander-Arnold with England and Alexis Mac Allister with Argentina, will be available.
After playing Arsenal on July 31, Liverpool will conclude their tour with a match against Manchester United on August 3. They will then return home for one final warm-up game against Sevilla on August 11.
