Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag continues to have the backing of key figures at the club, despite a sluggish start to the 2024-25 season. After finishing eighth last term, their worst finish since 1990, the Red Devils have struggled, winning only one of their first three matches and suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat to rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.
Although the Dutchman signed a one-year contract extension following United’s FA Cup triumph in May, a poor result in the upcoming match against Southampton could intensify the pressure on him. This comes after the club made significant investments in new signings over the summer.
For now, Ten Hag has the full support of club co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, chief executive Omar Berrada, and sporting director Dan Ashworth. Speaking about the situation, Berrada expressed confidence in the head coach: “It was a decision made before our arrivals, but we are very pleased with it. Erik has our complete backing, and we believe he is the right coach for us.”
Ashworth echoed these sentiments, highlighting his positive working relationship with Ten Hag over the past eight weeks. He added: “My job is to support him in any way possible—whether that’s operationally, in recruitment, or ensuring the training ground runs smoothly—so he can fully focus on preparing the team for success.”
Despite the challenges, United’s leadership remains committed to helping Ten Hag deliver positive results.
