Tottenham Hotspur head coach Robert Vilahamn has extended his contract with the club following a historic season of success.
The 41-year-old Swede, who joined Spurs in July 2023 from BK Hacken, quickly made an impression with his attacking style of play in the Women’s Super League (WSL). His new contract will keep him at Tottenham until the summer of 2027.
In the first half of the 2023/24 season, Vilahamn led his team to an impressive eight-game unbeaten run across all competitions and secured a top-six WSL finish for just the second time in the club’s history.
Most notably, Vilahamn guided Spurs to their first-ever Women’s FA Cup final. The team triumphed over Sheffield United, Charlton Athletic, Manchester City, and Leicester City in the earlier rounds before falling 4-0 to Manchester United in the final. The historic occasion drew over 76,000 supporters to Wembley Stadium in May.
In an exclusive interview with Spurs, Vilahamn expressed his commitment to building on last season’s achievements. “The main thing if you want to reach the Champions League and win titles, you need time,” he said. “We are going to make sure we do it our way, develop players, and create an amazing environment so we can be on top for a long time.”
Vilahamn emphasized the club’s support and the talent within the squad. “The club has given me time to create this, and they want to do the real thing here. The talent in this group is already there, and we need to find the right level and develop to take it up a step.”
Looking ahead, Vilahamn plans to build on the current squad while integrating a few new players. “The big plan for this year is to start on a higher level than last year,” he explained. “Instead of trying to buy eight or nine new players, we need to make sure we add a few new players to this group as I think you need that every year. The main thing is to take this team, the tactics, the way we speak and treat each other to the next level – push each other and have a better understanding of the goal model. We are going to keep building on what we did last year.”
With Vilahamn at the helm, Tottenham Hotspur’s women’s team looks poised for continued growth and success in the coming seasons.
